Roselyn Okumu
Chairperson

Ms. Roselyne Okumu is the current Chair of the Oncology Nurses Chapter – Kenya, and a member of, NNAK, KESHO AORTIC and Africa Oncology Nurses Network. Additionally, she is the Nurse Manager at the Cancer Treatment Centre (CTC), Kenyatta National Hospital. Roselyne has excelled in provision of nursing care to different categories of patients from cancer screening/awareness to offering clinical care. She is passionate about oncology nursing education, advocacy and research with the intent of provision of patient centered evidence based cancer care. She has participated in planning and executing Oncology workshops and conferences both locally and internationally. She is involved in mentorship and training of oncology nurses at the clinical area. Additionally, she is an adjunct lecturer at the University of Nairobi (UON) where she is pursuing her PhD in Oncology Nursing under supervision of both local professor and a visiting professor from University of Toronto, Canada. Roselyne has participated in the formulation of several Cancer policy and strategic documents in partnership with NCI and NCCP (National Cancer Control Strategy, National Cancer Screening guidelines and Cancer treatment protocols). She is involved in technical working groups at both NCCP and NCI.

David Makumi
Patron

David Makumi is the current Vice Chairman of the Non Communicable Diseases Alliance of Kenya (NCD-AK), the umbrella body of civil society and patient groups with over 30 member organizations spread across the country and sits on the Board of Trustees of the National Cancer Institute of Kenya. He is a member of the WHO expert advisory group on elimination of cervical cancer. David is an award winning Registered Nurse and cancer control advocate and has worked in cancer control at clinical, advocacy and policy level for over 15 years. He was the first recipient of the International Award for Contribution to Cancer Care from the East African Region by Oncology Nursing Society (ONS-USA) in 2011. David is the 2020 recipient of The International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC) Past Presidents Award. Previously David chaired the Kenya Network of Cancer Organizations (KENCO) and was the East African regional manager of cancer programs at the Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi. He has professional interests in low cost models of integrating access to screening and care for cancer and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). He is a regular commentator on cancer issues in the print and electronic media and enjoys art, travelling and nature.

Moses Otieno
Organizing Secretary

Mr. Moses Otieno is a registered nurse with 12 years experience in clinical nursing with bias in oncology nursing. He has worked in oncology ward at Kenyatta National Hospital since 2013 and has a verse experience in cancer management. Moses is along standing member of National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNAK) and a founder member of Oncology Nurses Chapter-Kenya and currently serve as an Organizing Secretary of the chapter. Moses holds a MSc. degree in Health Economics and Policy and a fellow in Global Health Leadership with experience in health financing, costing, economic evaluation and research. Moses is a Trainer of Trainee in TB and HIV/AIDS and currently supports National AIDS and STI Control Program (NASCOP) - Kenya on HIV related services. He is passionate about cancer and HIV management, education and research.

Henry Kilemi Mitheu
Treasurer

Henry Kilemi Mitheu is an Oncology Nurse Specialist with Master of Science in Nursing (Oncology) from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing holder from the same institution. He is the current Treasurer of the Oncology Nurses Chapter. He is a member of National Nurses Association of Kenya and Africa Oncology Nurses Network. Currently he is practicing at Machakos Cancer Care and Research Center in Machakos Level 5 Hospital, Machakos County. He serves as the Nursing Departmental head of Oncology and Palliative care Services within the Hospital. He has interests in cancer care research and education.

Dr. Fatuma Aden Affey
Vice-Chaiperson

Dr. Fatuma A. Affey has PhD in Nursing Science (Oncology and Palliative), Master of Science in Critical Care Nursing and Bachler of Arts in psychology counselling. She is a Clinical Nurse Specialist consultant with over 27years experience in nursing practice, education, research and leadership. She is a lecturer and Dean at School of Nursing and Midwifery at Umma University and previously served as Head of Medical - Surgical Nursing department at Mount Kenya University. She provides expertise in Nursing Science and Psychosocial field and participated in various trainings related in the field of health. She was a member of National IPC taskforce, that development of IPC curriculum for all health care workers following the COVID-19 pandemic Kenya. She has participated in the development and review of various nursing education curricula. Dr. Fatuma has published over ten publications in peer reviewed journals, has supervised and examined more than ten postgraduate students. She is currently a member of board of examiners in various University that include Mount Kenya University(MKU), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Kenyatta University. Dr. Fatuma is the vice Chair of Oncology Nurses Chapter and member of International Association for Hospice and Palliative care. She is a member of East Central &South African College (ECSACON) of Nursing, Kenya Hospice and palliative Care Association (KEPCA) and was a member of National Nurses Association of Kenya (Member of Education Committee).

Pamela Were
Secretary

Pamela Were currently works at the International Cancer Institute (ICI) as the Chief Community Outreach Coordinator, a Not for profit organization which she joined in January 2020 after working with Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital since its inception in the year 2000. Pamela is an alumni of Oxford Brookes, Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute and Rockville University and one of the founder nurses for the Oncology Nursing in Kenya. Pamela has lectured in several colleges and mentored many in both oncology and Palliative care. Through a scholarship from the UICC, she undertook oncology nursing fellowship in Melbourne, Australia under the Trish Green Oncology Nursing Fellowship. Her membership of MASCC gained her several travel grants, an opportunity she has used to present her work and interact with other professionals in other countries, a wealth of experience that has been a great resource in the leadership of our Oncology Nursing Chapter where she is currently serving as the General Secretary. Pam successfully coordinated the Epidemiology of Burkitts Lymphoma on East African Children and Minors (EMBLEM Study), a multi-center study which has very interesting results and several publications. At the ICI, she is currently spearheading cancer prevention and advocacy in 11 counties in Kenya. Pamela�s initiative, Oncology Outreach services is a model that has currently attracted attention of many local and international stakeholders in NCD. Her excellent organizational skills, research oriented and high level of advocacy together with others enabled her to secure for the establishment of Oncology services in Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Eldoret Hospice. Pam Has over 25 years working experience in Cancer Care and Observer- ship in several International Cancer Institutions.
